The Namib Desert

The coastal Namib Desert – said to be the oldest desert in the world – stretches from the Olifants River in South Africa to Namibe (formerly Mocamedes) in Angola. Confined by the Atlantic Ocean in the west, the desert sprawls inland towards the escarpment which forms its eastern boundary.
