Pondock Mountain, Namibia
Drenched in the golden light of sunrise, the Pondok Mountain stands near one of Namibia’s best-known landmarks, Grosse Spitzkoppe, a granite massif soaring to 1,728 m. Together with the Kleine Spitzkoppe, these mountains are located in the eastern Namib Desert where the rainfall is higher and the vegetation more lush. Natural pools formed by accumulated rainwater can be found at the base of the mountains, providing a home for various creatures such as the Herero chat, an extremely rare indigenous bird species. The first nest of this species’ eggs was discovered in the Pondok Mountain. High up in the same mountain is Bushman’s Paradise, a large shelter and ancient rock art site.
