The Wollman Rink opened in 1949 and has been a solid success ever since; over 300,000 skaters used it during its first year of operation, and today over 4000 come daily. The rink is situated between the Dairy to the north and the Pond to the south, creating a picturesque rural scene that is improbably framed by the high-rise buildings sprouting from the trees in the distance. Under a full moon, against the backdrop of twinkling apartment lights, skaters and visitors alike are treated to one of the world’s most romantic skylines.
