Chrylser Building, New York
In 1924 Walter Percy Chrysler unveiled the first vehicle bearing the Chrysler name in New York City. He was barred from presenting it at the New York Auto Show because it was not available for sale yet, so he displayed his “Chrysler Six” in the lobby of the nearby Hotel Commodore. The powerful and fast (an unheard-of 70 miles per hour) new model caused a media and industry sensation, and sold almost 32,000 units, the largest number ever for a new American launch. Six years later the Chrysler Building, the world’s tallest, was completed at 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue.
