Leopard, South Africa

“I am awed anew every time I see a leopard in the glow of the magic sunlight during the first two hours of dawn and the last two hours of dusk, when the sun is low on the horizon and the shadows are long. Its buff coat, marked by dark rosettes, transforms splendidly into scintillating hues of burnished gold and appears iridescent at these times of the day. An inspiration of feline symmetry, the leopard is a masterpiece of creation, both in function and in form. Images of it are found on ancient artefacts and the walls of Egyptian tombs, and in primitive rock paintings, contemporary art, sculpture, carvings, photographs and heraldry.”
