Lions Mating, South Africa

“Late one afternoon in the Chobe National Park in the Okavango Delta, Botswana, we suddenly came across a lion and lioness, lying close together under a shady tree. We quietly approached in our vehicle and then waited. The lioness rose and languidly moved ahead of the lion into the clearing. When he stopped walking, she then sauntered over. He positioned himself behind her. He snarled, wrinkled his nose, bared his fearsome teeth and then nuzzled her neck. Then began his frenzied thrusting: the lioness snarled and purred in apparent ecstasy. Copulation lasted a mere 60 seconds.
