Saddlebilled Storks

The saddle billed stork is one of only two stork species in the world in which the male and female can be distinguished in the field. The eye of the female (the leading bird in the photograph) is yellow, whereas that of the male is dark. These striking, stately birds are widespread in the warmer regions of sub-Saharan Africa, but generally are uncommon. They prefer wetland habitats, where they hunt mostly fish.
